The Sri Lankan Choral Week has been set up in order to
attract singers from around the world to share musical experience in rehearsing
and performing the immense beauty of Johann Sebastian Bach´s St. John Passion in the idyllic
surroundings of Sri Lanka. The performance will take place in the magnificent
Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour in Colombo on the Saturday prior to Palm
Sunday. It will include the Baroque ensemble of the Chamber Music Society of
Colombo, Sri Lankan soloists and will be conducted by Gregory Rose, an
established conductor based in London. This will be an unique experience for
all those involved; a week of joyous music making. Over the week, each visiting singer will receive
singing lessons from an experienced singer and teacher. Alison Wells and
Gregory Rose will hold conducting masterclasses during the evening for a small
group of student conductors, assisted by a group of players from the Chamber
Music Society of Colombo. The choral rehearsals will be accompanied by an
experienced local repetiteur
